Roberto Soto, born on May 22, 1933, passed away on September 2, 2026.

“

He enjoyed taking walks, eating healthy, and reading the dictionary, often highlighting new words to learn.

Mr. Soto lived as a strong-willed, proud, and fiercely independent man who worked hard throughout his life to provide for his family. He served in the army in Mexico and later built a long career as a chef in Hollywood, where he worked for more than 40 years. He took deep pride in carrying his responsibilities on his own terms and was known as someone who did not ask for help or favors. He loved deeply and cared more than he often showed.

He will be remembered for the energy and personality he brought into everyday life. He was funny, sarcastic, and quick with a fast comeback, and his stories about growing up could be both hilarious and unforgettable. He enjoyed taking walks, eating healthy, and reading the dictionary, often highlighting new words to learn. His portable radio was never far away, especially when it was tuned to KFI news or Mexican music. He loved tattoos, treasured time with family, and created lasting memories through backyard barbecues and his famous homemade cheesecake.

Some of the most cherished memories of Roberto were made on Sundays. He would take his family to the beach, to Beverly Hills for special meals, on Hollywood tours, and each year to the Hollywood Christmas Parade. After church, he would often have a big meal waiting, turning an ordinary Sunday into a time of warmth, togetherness, and care. In these gestures, his family knew how deeply he loved them.

Roberto was preceded in death by his wife, Maria Soto; his son, Roberto “Bobby” Soto; and his grandson, Joseph Santana, a fallen officer.

He is survived by his daughters, Sonia Soto and Olga Soto Garcia. He also leaves behind Lynette De La Riva, Jessica Santana Gibson, and Bianca Santana, as well as Jayde, Eli, Jakob D., Joshua, Jakob S., and Jayla. His family carries forward the memory of a man whose love was steady, whose presence was unmistakable, and whose strength shaped generations. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.

A Memorial Mass will be held on October 9, 2026, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at St. Benedict Catholic Church, 1022 W Cleveland Ave, Montebello, CA 90640.
