In Loving Memory of
Reverend Alfrits Sulong Maringka
Also known as Reverend A.S. Maringka
Alfrits Sulong Maringka, lovingly known as Reverend A.S. Maringka, was born
on February 18, 1943, in Manado, Indonesia. He married his beloved wife, Neeltje Simeler, and together they shared 59 years and 4 days of marriage, walking through life's joys and sorrows side by side. Their marriage was blessed with two daughters, Meiske and Merry, who remained a precious part of his life and legacy.
At just 24 years old, A.S. Maringka had already established an expedition business. During the 1970s, he successfully partnered with the Indonesian Armed Forces (ABRI) in procurement. As a successful businessman, he experienced both achievements and difficult seasons in his life, including several years of imprisonment.
It was during this challenging chapter of his life that God began to place a new burden on his heart. He witnessed prisoners being released and returning to their families, only to see some of them eventually return to prison. Having personally experienced the hardships and bitterness of imprisonment, he understood the struggles that former inmates faced as they tried to rebuild their lives.
He recognized that many former prisoners needed acceptance, guidance, and a place where they could find hope and a new beginning. Some sought refuge in churches, but they were sometimes turned away because church leaders feared welcoming people with criminal backgrounds. Deeply moved by their circumstances, Maringka felt compelled to take action.
Together with his family, he established the Yayasan Pelayanan Kasih (YPK) "BATU PENJURU," also known as Prison Care Indonesia. The foundation was born out of a vision to bring love, hope, and spiritual guidance to prisoners and former inmates, helping them discover that their past did not have to determine their future.
For 35 years, this ministry continued its work through a partnership between Indonesia and the Netherlands, reaching lives and carrying forward its mission of compassion and service.
Even in the final years of his life, despite his frail physical condition, Reverend A.S. Maringka continued to think about the ministry and its future. His heart remained devoted to the Dutch children who were scheduled to serve in Indonesia on October 20, 2026. His concern for the next generation reflected his enduring commitment to the work he believed God had entrusted to him.
On September 28, 2026, at approximately 1:19 a.m., Reverend A.S. Maringka was called home to be with the Lord.
Though he has departed from this earthly life, his legacy lives on through his beloved family, the ministry he established, and the countless lives touched by his vision of love, compassion, and restoration.
His earthly journey has ended, but the seeds of faith, hope, and love that he planted will continue to grow in the lives of those he leaves behind. Rest in peace, Reverend A.S. Maringka. Your race has been run, your faith has endured, and your legacy will continue for generations to come.
